14 people have died due to fire in an apartment.

New Delhi:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed condolences to the people killed in the massive fire that broke out in an apartment in Dhanbad, Jharkhand on Tuesday.

He has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each to the next of kin of the deceased and Rs 50,000 to the injured.

14 people have died due to fire in Dhanbad's apartment.

At the same time, more than 12 people are injured.

The Prime Minister's Office tweeted, "The next of kin of each deceased in the Dhanbad fire will be given an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh from PMNRF. The injured will be given Rs 50,000."

PM Modi has wished for the speedy recovery of the injured.

The PMO tweeted, "Deeply saddened by the loss of lives in Dhanbad fire. My thoughts are with those who have lost their loved ones. I wish the injured a speedy recovery."

Earlier, Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren condoled the death of 14 people in the massive fire at Ashirwad Tower Apartments in Dhanbad.

Soren said that the district administration is working on a war footing and the injured are being treated.

CM Soren tweeted, "The death of people in Dhanbad's Ashirwad Tower apartment fire is extremely heartbreaking. The district administration is working on a war footing and providing treatment to the injured. I'm checking."

He further said that every effort is being made to provide quick medical treatment to the injured.

SSP Dhanbad Sanjeev Kumar said that many people had gathered in the apartment for a wedding ceremony.

The cause of the fire is still not known.
