An accident occurred in Ji'an Township, Hualien County yesterday. A man surnamed Zhang accidentally overturned and was crushed to death while driving an excavator (a strange hand).

[Reporter Wang Jinyi/Hualien Report] An accident occurred in Ji'an Township, Hualien County yesterday. A man surnamed Zhang accidentally overturned while driving an excavator (weird hand) to move off the transport cart. Zhang was pressed on the driver's seat and rescued Personnel came to the scene to rescue Zhang Nan, but his head was severely injured and there was no sign of life. He was sent to the hospital and died.

The Ji’an Police Department pointed out that at around 12:00 noon yesterday, a 49-year-old man surnamed Zhang drove an excavator (weird hand) to a farmland on Yongxing 2nd Street, Ji’an Township, and prepared to sort out the stones in the farmland. When the excavator was about to be driven off the truck, the farmland was suspected to be soft and uneven, and the excavator fell from the side of the driver's seat, and Zhang Nan was heavily pressed on the driver's seat of the excavator.

Other colleagues at the scene quickly called 119 to report the incident. The Hualien County Fire Department dispatched ambulance personnel and equipment vehicles to the scene. After arriving at the scene, the heavy objects on Mr. Zhang had been removed. He was rescued and sent to the hospital for first aid, but died of his injuries due to severe head injuries.

The police pointed out that the preliminary investigation is that the accident occurred due to careless operation and failure to take appropriate measures. It will be referred to the North District Occupational Safety and Health Center of the Ministry of Labor for further clarification.
