It is a 2-day festival in which Holika Dahan (Holika Dahan) is celebrated on the first day, which is called Chhoti Holi, and color is played on the second day, which is also known as Badi Holi.

It is played with Gulal on the day of Holi.

On this day, forgetting the enmity of the heart, people extend the hand of friendship.

According to mythology, this day started with the burning of Holika, sister of Hiranyakashyap, due to which Holika Dahan was started and Holi was played with colors the next day.

According to the Hindu calendar, this year Holika Dahan will be done on March 7.

Whereas, Holi will be celebrated on 8 March.

This year, the auspicious time of Holika Dahan or Chhoti Holi (Shubh Muhurt) is being told from 6.31 pm to 8.58 pm on March 7.

It will be very auspicious to burn Holika during this period. 

We all have come to hear the story of Holika Dahan since childhood.

According to mythology, in ancient times there lived a king whose name was Hiranyakashyap.

Prahlad, the son of Hiranyakashipu, was an ardent devotee of Lord Vishnu.

Hiranyakashyap never liked that his son was engrossed in the worship of Lord Vishnu, due to which he tried to kill his son.

Once Hiranyakashyap asked his sister Holika to sit in the fire with Prahlad.

According to the legend, Holika had the boon of not burning in the fire, but due to the anger of Lord Vishnu, Holika was burnt to ashes in the fire and Prahlad was saved.

Since then Holika Dahan came into vogue and Holika Dahan was started every year.
