Military expert Oleg Zhdanov said that GM-200 radars are one of the types of early detection of ballistic missile launches.

He said this in an interview with TSN.ua.

"This is very important. The sooner we detect a ballistic missile, the more opportunities we have to shoot it down. By the way, one of the functions of the F-16 aircraft (American fighter jets that Ukraine can get - ed.) is also detection and interception. How fighter, it can intercept missiles and work in sparring with similar radar stations and anti-missile systems. If the squadron is airborne in a timely manner, together with air defense systems, they can work to detect and intercept missiles, including ballistic ones," Oleg Zhdanov explains.

This is another step towards the creation of an integrated system of air defense and anti-missile defense of Ukraine, which was agreed upon at the sixth "Ramstein".

"All these are elements that will gradually flow into a single system of notification and distribution of targets between means of destruction, and which already today form the basis of the powerful system that we have to build in order to close our own skies," Oleg Zhdanov added.

Why French radars are important

Russia is hitting Ukraine with S-300 and S-400 ballistic missiles and missiles that fly along a ballistic trajectory, so our air defense system cannot effectively detect them, and therefore the population alert system does not always work.

Ukraine lacked early detection radars for early detection of ballistic launches, as well as missiles of the S-300 and S-400 complexes.

During the visit of the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Oleksiy Reznikov to France, together with his French colleague Sébastien Lecorne, as well as a representative of the Thales Group, a memorandum on the supply of GM-200 radars for Ukrainian air defense was signed.
