[Reporter Lu Yixuan/Taipei Report] U.S. Secretary of State Blinken will visit China on Sunday (5th) to seek resumption of dialogue.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated today that Taiwan and the United States have good mutual trust, and we will continue to maintain close contact with the United States on the high-level interactions between the United States and China.

White House national security spokesman John Kirby said on the 31st that Secretary of State Antony Blinken will visit Beijing from February 5 to 6.

Kirby said talks between the U.S. and China on a range of issues, including military-to-military communications, climate change and other issues, were put on hold last year in protest of then-U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's visit to Taiwan.

Blinken's trip will touch on the Russia-Ukraine war and a host of other issues, seeking to "resuscitate or reinvigorate dialogue on these issues."

Blinken's visit to China has been in preparation for some time. Blinken said at a University of Chicago event in late January that tensions between the United States and China had eased, but he also once again warned against Beijing's intentions toward Taiwan.

Blinken noted that Beijing has stepped up its efforts to isolate Taiwan and held large-scale military exercises near Taiwan last August.

We see that China is no longer complacent with the status quo that laid the foundations of stability for the past few decades.

Taiwan's semiconductor advantages are crucial to the global economy. "China says this is a sovereignty issue, and our response is that this is a matter of interest to the United States and countries around the world."

Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Yongjian said today that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has always paid close attention to the high-level interactions between the United States and China. At present, Taiwan and the United States have good mutual trust and communication channels are very smooth. We will continue to maintain close contact with the United States on the high-level interactions between the United States and China. master.

This will be the first visit to China by a US Secretary of State since October 2018.
