The corridor is the only road that connects the regions of Nagorno-Karabakh where ethnic Armenians live with Armenia: the corridor has been blocked for almost two months by people who call themselves "Azerbaijani eco-activists".

"Except for the complete lifting of the blockade and the unimpeded restoration of communal services, no other step can alleviate the hardships that have befallen the victims of this brutal blockade," Reuters quoted the lawyer representing the interests of the Armenian side,

Yeghishe Kirakasyan

, as saying .

Azerbaijan appealed to the Hague Court with a counterclaim.

Baku claims that Yerevan used the Lachin Corridor to transport weapons and mines to Nagorno-Karabakh, which are prohibited by the ceasefire agreement.

Armenia denied these accusations.

The court will consider the lawsuit against Azerbaijan in a separate procedure.

Earlier, the European Parliament adopted a resolution on the Lachin Corridor and the blockade of Nagorno-Karabakh.

In it, he calls on Azerbaijan to immediately open the road.

The representatives of the legislative body of the European Union also said that they condemn the inaction of the Russian peacekeepers, who are stationed in the Lachin corridor and do not interfere with this blockade.

The European Parliament also called on the UN or the OSCE to send a fact-finding mission to the Lachin Corridor and appealed to both sides of the conflict to resume peace talks.

Azerbaijani deputies called the resolution "unbiased and unfair", and its authors - "unable to move away from the policy of double standards".

The Lachin Corridor is the only road that connects the Armenian regions of Nagorno-Karabakh with Armenia.

According to the terms of the agreement signed after the end of the war between Armenia and Azerbaijan in 2020, the Lachin district came under the control of Baku, and the corridor came under the observation of Russian peacekeepers.

In the middle of December 2022, the road that goes along the Lachin corridor was blocked by the Azerbaijanis.

In Baku, they say that these are environmentalists who oppose, in their opinion, the illegal extraction of natural resources by the Armenian authorities in the territory of Nagorno-Karabakh and their removal from the region.

The blackout has been going on for more than a month.

Yerevan claims that after the closure of the road in the Lachin Corridor to the Armenian-populated areas of Karabakh, the supply of food and vital goods has stopped and the region is close to a humanitarian crisis: products have already started to be sold there by cards.

The head of the government of Armenia ,

Nikol Pashinyan

, issued a statement in which he accused the Russian peacekeepers of inaction.
