Originating from the Qing Dynasty, Miaoli County's intangible cultural asset Houlong "Ciyun Palace Attacking Paocheng" was previously suspended for two years due to the epidemic, and it resumed this year.

The custom of "Ciyun Palace Attacking Paocheng" originated in the Qing Dynasty and was registered as an intangible cultural asset of Miaoli County. According to legend, plagues raged in the Houlong area in the past, but the medical care in remote villages was not developed. Later, the villagers set up a cannon city in front of the temple to drive away the plague god by throwing cannons. Later, the epidemic stopped spreading and has evolved to this day, becoming a local Lantern Festival special event.

The Ciyun Palace Temple said that on the first day of the Lantern Festival Gala, DIY small lanterns for the Year of the Rabbit will be distributed, and community groups will be invited to perform and guess lantern riddles. On the 4th and 5th, 1,000 small lanterns will be distributed for free at 5 pm each.

At 7:00 p.m. on the Lantern Festival, the main event will be the attack on Cannon City.
