Last week, US Deputy Secretary of State for Political Affairs Victoria Nuland said that the State Department is "looking for a suitable, professional candidate" for the position of special representative for Belarus.

She added:

"I would not say that we have achieved obvious success.

But they also worked intensively with the Belarusian opposition and Ms. Tikhanovskaya, the secretary met with her regularly.
