Crimea

is a decisive battlefield in the

war

.

Ukraine will not be safe as long as Russia controls this peninsula.

This was stated by the former commander of US forces in Europe, General Ben Hodges, in an interview with Insider.

"The decisive territory in this war is Crimea. The government of Ukraine knows that it cannot accept that Russia will retain control over Crimea," said Ben Godges.

He noted that Ukraine will not be safe and will not be able to restore its economy while Russia occupies Crimea.

"In the next few months, Ukraine will establish the conditions for the final liberation of Crimea," the general predicts.

Godges recalled that Russia occupied Crimea and a large part of southern Ukraine, including the cities of Melitopol and Mariupol, providing it with a land bridge from its own border to the Crimean peninsula.

This area is a key supply route for the Russian military.

A number of military bases and the Russian Black Sea Fleet are located on the peninsula.

For the de-occupation of Crimea, the Ukrainian Defense Forces need long-range high-precision weapons, in particular ATACMS.

"The transfer of weapons capable of depriving Russia of any hiding place after its missile and air strikes will allow Ukraine to make Crimea unusable for the Russians," the general said.

Hodges added that in order to liberate Crimea, it will be necessary to destroy the Crimean Bridge to cut off the Russians.

It will be recalled that earlier the retired American general Ben Hodges said that

Ukraine will liberate the occupied Crimea

by the end of the summer.

However, for this it is necessary that the West provided the necessary weapons.

According to intelligence, the Russian occupiers

are preparing for defense in the annexed Crimea

and are carrying out fortification works.

The Russian command has even created a corresponding defense group on the territory of the peninsula.
