Bulandshahr District and Sessions Judge of Uttar Pradesh on Monday sentenced 14 convicts to life imprisonment in connection with the murder of Malkhan Singh, former MLA from Iglas assembly seat in Aligarh district, and his bodyguard.

Along with the sentence, the court has also imposed a fine of Rs 1.50 lakh on the main accused and former district panchayat president Tejveer Singh.

Assistant District Government Advocate (Criminal) Manu Raj Bahadur told that on March 20, 2006, Malkhan Singh, former MLA from Iglas assembly in Aligarh district, was sitting outside his residence with his colleagues.

He told that meanwhile Tejveer Singh and about 14-15 people along with him came to Malkhan Singh's house and killed the MLA and his bodyguard.

The MLA's elder brother and eyewitness of the incident, Dalveer Singh, had filed a report in the matter.

In 2008, the case was transferred to Bulandshahr by the order of the High Court and there were 18 accused in the case, out of which two have died while two others are absconding.

On Monday, the court of District and Sessions Judge Pankaj Kumar Singh sentenced 14 accused to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 1.50 lakh on the main accused Tejveer Singh Guddu.
