From tomorrow until December 31 of this year

schoolchildren, students and doctoral students will travel in Sofia's public transport with a 70% discount, and children up to the age of 10 for free.

Such a decision was taken at a meeting of the Committee on Transport and Public Order of the Metropolitan City Council, where the decree of the Council of Ministers (MC), which came into effect on February 1st, and was promulgated by the "State Gazette" on January 27th, was discussed.

The decree of the Council of Ministers also provides for a reduction of the monthly subscription cards for pensioners from 20% to 40%, but this condition will not be fulfilled by the Metropolitan Municipality, because according to the tariff policy of its territory, pensioners up to 68 years of age enjoy a greater discount - 50%. those over 68 – 80% and accepting the indicated reduction would harm them, writes BTA.

After the meeting of the commission, its chairman Carlos Contrera gave a briefing, at which he summarized that there are too many questions surrounding the implementation of the decree.

"One of the decisions of the commission is to request a legal interpretation from the Court of Justice on part of the texts, especially the one that concerns the return of already paid funds," he pointed out.

Contrera also said that the settlement of the issue of compensation for citizens will be the subject of a report with an opinion of the Center for Urban Mobility to prepare an amendment to the ordinance so that we can comply with the municipal ordinance with the texts of the decree.

"It is precisely in these texts of the municipal ordinance that we will describe the mechanism by which the funds will be returned.

However, the deadline for the public discussion is 14 days from its submission, which means that this process will be delayed in time, but unfortunately the decree was published last Friday and comes into force from tomorrow."

The executive director of the Center for Urban Mobility, Dimitar Dilchev, announced that the sale of annual cards for schoolchildren and students will be temporarily suspended until the SOS brings the tariff in line with the decisions of the Council of Ministers.

Categorical: From February 1, public transport for students and pensioners will become cheaper

As a challenge, Dilchev pointed out that CGM must overnight change price lists everywhere, give instructions to cashiers and change the cash register software.

"We will work all night to make this a reality from tomorrow," he said.

On January 25, the official cabinet decided on additional funding for municipalities, which would make it possible for children up to the age of 10 to travel free of charge on public transport, reduce public transport prices for all students by 70%, as well as increase the compensation of carriers with a 40% reduction in vehicle documents for pensioners.

When the decree was promulgated in the State Gazette on January 27, it became clear the financial transfers that the municipalities will receive under the measure related to the compensations for cheaper public transport.
