Upendra Kushwaha returned to JDU in March 2017 after merging his Rashtriya Lok Samata Party.

Patna:

Disgruntled Janata Dal (United) leader Upendra Kushwaha on Tuesday likened his rebellion to the challenge that Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had posed three decades ago to Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) president Lalu Prasad Yadav. Had done with (Lalu Prasad Yadav).

JDU Parliamentary Board President Kushwaha said that he has 'deep respect' for Nitish Kumar, but he (Nitish) is not able to take his own decisions.

As a result JDU has become weak.

Former Union minister Upendra Kushwaha said, “I was asked to clarify what I meant by claiming my share in the party.

I am doing that today.

I am talking about the same share that Nitish Kumar had asked for in his famous 1994 rally.

When Lalu Prasad was hesitating to give his due to our leader.

Kushwaha was referring to the 'Luv Kush' rally organized in Patna.

Its purpose was to unite the Kurmi-Koiri caste people who were left behind in the political dominance of the Yadav caste in Bihar.

Nitish Kumar's presence at the rally set the stage for his breakaway from the undivided Janata Dal and an independent political journey.

Upendra Kushwaha returned to JDU in March 2017 after merging his Rashtriya Lok Samata Party.

Kushwaha said that he has no powers as the head of the parliamentary board.

This post is a kind of 'jhunjhunu'.

He further said, “I have left the Rajya Sabha in the past.

I was also removed from the Union Council of Ministers... If they think that these are big privileges for me, then the party can take back all my posts.

Unlike 2013 when the JDU first parted ways with the Bharatiya Janata Party, Kushwaha claimed there was a "threat of disintegration".

This danger is now hovering over our party.

Avoiding a direct answer to a question whether he felt threatened by the rise of Deputy Chief Minister and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, he said, “I must say that the Chief Minister has been saying in his public statements that all his steps, in 2017 Reuniting with the BJP, parting ways last year and joining the Grand Alliance and even the selection of candidates for elections was done at the behest of others...therein lies the problem.

He is unable to take his decision.

Kushwaha also claimed that the most backward classes are getting disillusioned with JDU.

Referring to the attack on his convoy in Bhojpur district on Monday, Kushwaha alleged that the local administration tried to hush up the matter.

He demanded the personal intervention of the Director General of Police or the Chief Secretary in this matter.
