Ukraine, after the start of a full-scale offensive by Russian troops and Russia's seizure of Ukrainian territories, submitted applications to join the Alliance and the European Union under an accelerated procedure.

The European Union has already granted our country the status of a candidate for EU membership, and NATO is making various statements regarding Ukraine.

When Ukraine will become a member of NATO and at what stage of the process, Army General Mykola Malomuzh explained in an interview with the Obzrevatel publication.

"Boris Johnson is an active supporter of Ukraine, he is trying in every way to support our defense capability and create security guarantees for Ukraine. One of the mechanisms is, of course, joining NATO. This rhetoric of his is a signal to many Western leaders that they should change their position, especially the countries that are not in a hurry to support Ukraine's accession to NATO precisely during the war. Why do many NATO countries not want this? Because they refer to certain provisions of the NATO Charter that one cannot accept a country that is at war.. However, we see a clear movement on the way to NATO. This is both the supply of weapons and equipment, and the development of joint security and intelligence measures during the war, and the application of NATO standards in many formats - both in the military, and in technology, and in management. troops, both politically and economically. This is a long process," he said.

Malomuzh also reminded that the Allies believe that we should end the war and meet NATO standards by many criteria.

"Let's not forget that Ukraine already has the status of a major NATO ally. Therefore, in fact, our country receives more aid than some members of the Alliance. If Ukraine joins NATO and the war continues, accordingly, the entire bloc will have to fight with Russia. This worries many." - he added.

According to his belief, if NATO entered the war, Russia would try to deploy strategic offensive weapons of "nuclear deterrence", that is, an attack.

The world would be on the verge of a global crisis and the threat of the destruction of humanity in general.

"If a very effective operation was prepared, the war could end quickly, because Russia does not have even a tenth of the potential of the combined forces of NATO," he said.

It was previously reported that President Volodymyr Zelenskyi, in an address to the participants of the World Economic Forum in

Davos, said that membership in NATO would be "the best guarantee of security" for Ukraine

.

In addition, we previously reported that NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg

called for more weapons to be provided to Ukraine already today, declaring that a turning point in the war had arrived

.

NATO

currently has 30 member states.

Soon, with the addition of Sweden and Finland, there will be 32 countries in NATO.

So far, from the previous statements of nine countries - the Czech Republic, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Poland, Romania and Slovakia, as well as Canada's reaction has been interpreted as support for Ukraine's membership in NATO.

If this is so, then immediately one third of NATO (10 out of 30 members) advocated Ukraine's membership.
