Turkey fully supports the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) regarding the extension of the mandate of the UN Peacekeeping Forces stationed on the island of Cyprus by the decision of the United Nations Security Council on January 30, 2023.

APA's Istanbul correspondent was informed about this by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkey.

It was noted that in the reports of the Secretary General of the United Nations, the position of the TRNC based on the principle of two eras is not included, and they insist on unsuccessful solutions that are not related to reality.

In addition, it was emphasized that the permission to extend the mandate of the UN Peacekeeping Forces was not received from the Republic of Tajikistan.

"It has been repeatedly stated that this is contrary to the formed practices of the UN.

It is important for the UN Peacekeeping Forces to continue their activities in the territory of the Republic of Tatarstan on legal grounds.

In this regard, we will fully support the steps to be taken by the SKTR authorities.

The common ground that will pave the way for a just and lasting solution in Cyprus must be based on the realities on the ground.

In this context, we call on the Security Council and the international community to recognize the sovereign equality and equal international status of the Turkish Cypriot people and to recognize the SKTR on the basis that there are two separate peoples and two separate states on the island," the ministry said in a statement.
