The 11 months of full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine can be divided into three key stages.

Experts of the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) distinguished the period of the initiative of the occupiers, the counteroffensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and the period of the positional war.

"The Russian army had the initiative and led the offensive from February 24 to July 3, 2022. It was after the temporary occupation of Lysychansk at the beginning of July that the offensive of the Russian occupiers in a number of directions reached its climax," the message said.

The Ukrainian military seized the initiative and launched its first major counteroffensive in the Kharkiv region on September 6.

The large-scale autumn counteroffensive ended with the liberation of the western part of Kherson Oblast on November 11.

According to analysts, Ukraine has not been able to launch a new major counteroffensive since that time.

This allowed the war to move into a positional phase.

"This stage allowed the occupiers to regain the tactical initiative. The scheme for the supply of Western aid greatly influenced the course of the war. The supply of 155-mm American-made artillery systems in April, and then HIMARS installations in June, became important factors in the preparation of the Ukrainian counteroffensive," they report. experts

Analysts previously reported that Russian President Vladimir Putin will attempt a new decisive

offensive in the next six months,

most likely in the Luhansk region.

In addition, the Secretary of the National Security Council Oleksiy Danilov said that the Russians are preparing for

a powerful attack

on Ukraine.

This may happen in a month or two.
