A total of 75.6 percent of Egyptian citizens are aware of the problem of overpopulation in their country, according to a study by the Center for Information and Support for Government Decision-Making, cited by Al Ahram.

About 12 percent of the survey participants have no idea about the difficulties that arise from the too fast rate of population growth.

Just over 91 percent of respondents support family planning programs, while only 1.9 percent oppose them.

A total of 52.5 percent of those questioned believe that, against the background of the current situation, every family should have no more than two children, and 29.1 percent state that every family should have three children. 

Egypt's population will increase by 1.6 million in 2022, reaching 104.7 million as of December, according to data from the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics.

Last year, on average, one baby was born every 14.4 seconds, BTA reported.

Analyzes by the department show that at the current rate of growth, by 2052 the population will grow to 192 million people.

This will require the state to double investment in infrastructure projects and public works. 

In recent years, the Egyptian authorities have launched several campaigns and programs to reduce the birth rate.

The cabinet allocated 100 million Egyptian pounds (about $5.2 million) to provide contraceptives for free or at reduced prices. 

In August last year, a 20 percent drop in births was reported.

From 3.5 births per woman in 2014, it reaches 2.8 in 2021. The government's goal is to reduce the birth rate to 1.6 births per woman.
