In Kyiv, the police detained members of a criminal group that stole foreign cars.

This was reported by the Kyiv Police Department of Communication.

"During the pre-trial investigation, we found out that the offenders stole vehicles, in particular, at night. The organizer is a native of Sumy Oblast, born in 1989, who acted as a leader, gave instructions and planned crimes. His accomplice, 51, was also arrested - a one-year-old Kyivan, who helped search for a car," Oleksiy Shchukin, head of the Shevchenkiv police department's department for detecting illegal possession of vehicles, said.

The message states that among the stolen cars are Honda, Suzuki and Mazda cars, which the thieves managed to sell, but the law enforcement officers located it and seized it.

During the search of the residences and cars of the perpetrators, the investigators found and seized a large amount of money, the clothes the perpetrators were wearing during the commission of the crimes, weapons and ammunition.

"In addition, we seized from the accomplices forged documents of law enforcement agencies and various passes that the perpetrators used during the commission of crimes. These facts will be further qualified," Shchukin said.

The investigative department of the Shevchenkiv police department initiated criminal proceedings under Part 3 of Art.

289 – illegal possession of a vehicle and Part 1 of Art.

263 – illegal handling of weapons, ammunition or explosives of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

Under the procedural guidance of the Shevchenkiv District Prosecutor's Office of the city of Kyiv, the investigators informed the detainees about the suspicion.

The court chose precautionary measures for the defendants in the form of detention with the possibility of bail in the amount of 3 million hryvnias and 800 thousand hryvnias.

Perpetrators face up to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property.
