Listen to the news

The police and representatives of about 130 leading Japanese corporations today began a large-scale exercise to practice technologies to fight computer terrorism, in which about 5,500 people are participating, the Kyodo news agency reported.

According to the agency, the training will continue until February 6 and will be coordinated by the Cyber Security Center of the Tokyo Police Department.

During the exercise, participants will practice, among other things, detecting viruses that steal confidential information on computer systems.

Participants will also be trained to respond adequately to viruses that encrypt sensitive information and demand a ransom in exchange for free access to the data.

Separately, they will train on how to prevent cyber attacks during the Group of Seven summit in Hiroshima in May.
