The government of Cyprus offers a grant of 120 euros to those who want to turn on high-speed Internet in their home.

The new "connectivity funding" program announced is worth a total of €10 million, secured through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan.

The lump sum covers the set-up costs and part of the monthly subscription fees for one year for a broadband connection with a speed of at least 200 megabits per second (Mbps).

All users who are installing Internet at home for the first time or who want to speed up their existing connection can benefit from the subsidy.

There are no income requirements or other priority criteria for applicants, the government press office explained.

If necessary, the determined budget of 10 million euros will be increased by 2 million euros.

The purpose of the new program is to encourage the demand for high-speed Internet through financial assistance and to enable all citizens to have a fast connection, while incentivizing telecommunication companies to invest in the development of such networks.

So far, the providers have covered over 60% of the country's territory with fiber optic cables, the goal is to achieve 100% coverage this year, said Deputy Minister of Digital Policy Kyriakos Kokinos.
