The statement was proposed by Heather McPherson, a deputy from the New Democratic Party.

"Given the information about human rights violations and attacks on civilians in Ukraine and other parts of the world by the Russian-backed Wagner group, the House of Commons calls on the government to immediately recognize the Wagner group as a terrorist organization," the text reads.

At the same time, in Canada, the decision to include certain organizations in the terrorist list belongs to the powers of the government, so this resolution is advisory and not mandatory.
