Russian opposition political scientist and publicist Andriy Piontkovskyi commented on whether the West really provided Ukraine with tanks and planes in order to persuade Putin to negotiate.

The expert told about this in an interview with UNIAN.

According to him, the condition on the withdrawal of the Russian Federation to the borders on February 23, 2022 and negotiations on the peaceful return of Crimea and the ORDLO is not a joint position of the United States, but the position of only part of the Biden Administration - supporters of "not defeating" Ukraine.

Instead, Putin, according to the media, allegedly demanded Crimea for 15 years and the entire Donbas.

"It is clear that Russia will still lose, but the point of view of the "undefeated ones", as I call them, was until recently - a soft capitulation is needed," said Piontkovsky.

The expert reminded that there are two official documents - two statements of the "Great Eight" from October 12 and from December 12.

"There are the signatures of both Biden and Scholz, and the rest, and clearly written conditions - there are no talks about the borders on February 23, 2022. Moreover, this position was also verbally expressed during the joint press conference of Biden and Macron in the White home on November 30. The position that the only condition for achieving peace is Putin's complete withdrawal from all occupied territories. Until he does this, there will be no talks with the Russian Federation. As soon as he is ready for these conditions, negotiations will resume," said the political scientist.

Piontkovsky noted that the same position was confirmed in the Senate the other day by US Deputy Secretary of State Victoria Nuland.

She said that the United States is ready to negotiate with Putin when he agrees to a complete withdrawal from all occupied territory.

"So, the official position of the USA, NATO, and the entire Western world is the complete withdrawal of Russian troops. Yes, there were intermediate options. Do you remember when Macron, Draghi, and Scholz came to Kyiv on June 16? Their proposals did not even include February 23 , there was a ceasefire on the line of contact of the parties and then bilateral negotiations on disputed territories. There are no disputed territories anymore. Ukraine's position has always remained firm, and Ukrainian diplomacy has already imposed this position on the West," the expert concluded.

Earlier, Andriy Piontkovskyi said that for the first time in his 23 years in power, Putin suffered two major hardware defeats.

We will remind, the Russian oppositionist, ex-deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Ilya Ponomaryov believes that Putin will not agree to discuss the terms of his surrender with the West.
