"The United States caused the Ukraine crisis and is the most significant factor fueling it. It continues to sell heavy and deadly weapons to Ukraine, prolonging and intensifying the conflict," said Mao Ning, spokeswoman for China's foreign ministry.

With this, she responded to a question about claims by the US that Chinese companies provide support to Russia.

The spokeswoman dismissed the allegations as "baseless suspicions" and "baseless blackmail".

Mao Ning said Beijing "will not stand by and watch the US infringe on the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese companies".

Diplomatic tensions between China and the US intensified days before the visit of US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken to Beijing.

His visit, scheduled for February 5 and 6, will be the first visit by a US secretary of state to China since 2018.
