January 29, 2023 - Sunday.

340th day of the war in Ukraine.

What a church holiday today, January 29

January 29 in the church calendar is

the day of worshiping the honest chains of the Apostle Peter

.

Chains or shackles that restrain hands are called chains.

Orthodox Christians often put chains on themselves in order to better control their corruptible bodies and not succumb to sins.

This day has its roots in the years when King Herod Agrippa was the ruler.

Apostle Peter was thrown into prison because of his Christian sermons and words.

The prisoner was shackled with heavy shackles and left like that for the night - until the trial began.

When darkness descended on the earth, an angel came to Peter and freed the apostle from prison.

And the chains touched by the hands of the saint became a real jewel for the people.

According to legends, they could heal ailments and bless the needy.

January 29 in Ukraine is

the Day of Remembrance of the heroes of Krut.

Students and high school students who desperately tried to hold back the Bolshevik offensive took part in the battle under the Kruty railway station.

As a result of their actions, the Bolshevik units lost combat capability for several days, thanks to which the Ukrainian delegation gained time to conclude the Treaty of Brest.

The Kruty railway station was a strategically important station that led from Chernihiv Oblast to Kyiv.

It was defended by students and high school students of the first youth military school in Ukraine named after

Bohdan Khmelnytsky.

They were directed to the Student smokehouse and the so-called Death smokehouse, which were supposed to help the young men restrain the Bolsheviks.

The youngest of the fighters was only 16 years old at that time.

On the morning of January 29, a 4,000-strong army of Red Army soldiers attacked Ukrainian positions.

The fierce battle continued all day, and in the evening the Ukrainian forces began to retreat towards Kyiv and destroyed the tracks behind them.

27 young men got lost in the darkness (they were high school students and students).

They were captured by the Bolsheviks and then killed.

The bodies of the heroes were buried near the Askold grave (Kyiv).

In the memory of the people, the sacrifice of the Ukrainian boys lives on to this day.
