[Compiled Chen Chengliang/Comprehensive Report] The US Department of Defense recently confirmed that the US will aid Ukraine with 31 M1 Abrams main tanks, which are the same model as the M1A2 that will be sold to Taiwan, but there is currently no inventory.

US media reports pointed out that the production capacity of M1A2 is limited, and there are currently orders from Poland and Taiwan in the queue.

Daniel J. Samet, a geopolitical expert at the Atlantic Council, a US think tank, recently wrote a book in the Wall Street Journal, pointing out that US tanks should be supplied to Taiwan first, rather than Ukraine. Taiwan is more important to the prosperity and security of the United States!

The submission mentioned that William Galston, a researcher at the Brookings Institution, published an article in the Wall Street Journal on the 19th of this month, arguing that providing Ukrainian combat vehicles is a wise choice, "It is difficult to see that they are more important and more urgent uses", but he forgot about Taiwan.

Summitt pointed out that Taiwan has been under the threat of Chinese invasion and needs advanced weapons to deter Beijing, which is why the Trump administration agreed to sell Taiwan 108 Abrams main tanks, but most will not until 2024 and 2025 to arrive.

Summit believes that Ukraine is a case study in the failure of deterrence, while Taiwan is more important to the security and prosperity of the United States. "Any tank we can spare should be sent to Taipei first."

The pitch notes that while some Republicans who are skeptical of aid to Ukraine are isolationists, not all are.

Many Republicans worry that the U.S. is not doing enough to stand up to China, which means diverting most of our attention and resources to the Indo-Pacific region, where the geopolitical center of gravity and most of U.S. interests lie.

In turn, it is more pragmatic than “short-sighted” that America’s European allies should do more to aid Ukraine and counter Russia in their own neighbours.
