[Compiled Chen Chengliang/Comprehensive Report] One of the excuses for Russian President Vladimir Putin to send troops to Ukraine is to protect Russian-speaking people.

According to a report by Russia's "Sputnik News Agency" on the 28th, Hennadiy Zubko, a member of the Observation Committee of the Kyiv Mogila Academy and former Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister, confirmed that speaking Russian has been banned in the academy.

Located in Kyiv, it was founded in 1615 and is one of the oldest universities in Ukraine.

"The use of the language of the aggressor country - Russian - is prohibited at the Mogila Institute of Kyiv State University," Zubko wrote on his social media page.

He stressed that the ban does not concern the teaching of Russian.

According to him, the school has not taught Russian for a long time, and currently only students, teachers and college administrators use Russian for personal communication.

He pointed out that the norms of prohibiting Russian language are written in the new rules of Mojira College's internal rules, which were approved by the regular meeting of the university's academic conference last Friday (26th).

Russian and Ukrainian are very similar, just like Portuguese and Spanish. People who speak these two languages can basically communicate.

In fact, most Ukrainian people are bilingual, and even President Zelensky is a native Russian speaker who grew up in southeastern Ukraine.

However, when Putin sent troops on the grounds that Ukraine and Russia share a common language population, the issue became politicized, and many bilingual people who can speak Russian and Ukrainian made up their minds to abandon their Russian language and Russian cultural identity.
