Fusion and integration are the watchwords if we talk about what has happened so far in the 29th edition of the 2023 Jazz Plaza International Festival

.

Music is felt in Havana and Santiago de Cuba these days, and few events can fulfill that purpose.

The event reveres popular dance music, peasant music and the legacy of greats on the sound scene such as José Luis Cortes, Chano Pozo, Juan Formell and Adalberto Álvarez, and emblematic groups from the patio such as Los Muñequitos de Matanzas.

It has also been an exchange of experiences and knowledge between Cuban artists and renowned international jazz figures such as pianists Florian Weber (Germany), Bas Van Lier (Netherlands), Emmanuel Nieves (Mexico), Julio Resende (Portugal) and Aaron Goldberg (USA);

double bass player Arismar Do Espírito Santo (Brazil);

saxophonists Chad Lefkowitz-Brown and Ted Nash from the USA;

and the bandoneon player Chango Spasiuk (Argentina);

as well as prestigious Cuban instrumentalists who live in other latitudes such as Nachito Herrera, Pedrito Martínez and Yilian Cañizares.

The theoretical symposium focused its debates on improvisation in jazz and Cuban music, patrimonial investigations that offer a look at Luis Armstrong from the Hemingway Collection;

the imprint of Cuban jazz players in the diaspora, as well as the results obtained by our musicians in the Jazz Piano Competition, of the Montreux Jazz Festival;

the challenges of record production in jazz, the indissoluble links between jazz and danzón, the management of events and spaces for jazz in America.

The First Line Meeting was also in session, aimed at discussing the music industry and the country's possibilities to insert itself into international music marketing circuits, based on the potential and singularities of Cuban rhythms.

Even the music schools at different levels came the wisdom of the participants in the Jazz Plaza to establish exchanges with the students and give practical classes, in addition to the fact that Nachito Herrera donated supplies and donations to the National School of Music.

The nights of this Saturday and tomorrow Sunday will close the event with a flourish.
