Kamal Haasan founded Makkal Nidhi Maiyam on 21 February 2018.

Chennai:

The website of Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM), a party formed by South Indian superstar and leader Kamal Haasan, was hacked.

The party gave this information on Friday.

Hours after the website was hacked, MNM's Twitter handle announced that the party's official website had been hacked by some miscreants and that the party would not bow down to such threats and would give a befitting reply.

To the surprise of many, a statement was posted on the party's website announcing the merger of the MNM with the Congress on January 30.

Party workers were surprised by this.

This statement has been removed from the website.

A party spokesperson said, "No such decision has been taken (regarding the merger) and it was the handiwork of hackers."

The MNM has announced support to the Congress candidate in the by-election for the Erode East Assembly seat to be held on February 27.
