The police in Memphis released a video recording of the brutal arrest of an African-American man who later died, the world agencies reported.

The United States is in shock after another similar case in the country, which is reminiscent of that of George Floyd, a black man killed by a white police officer during an arrest in May 2020, France Press notes.

Then protests broke out in the US against racism and police violence under the slogan "Black Lives Matter".

29-year-old Tyre Nichols was stopped for a traffic check in the largest city in the southern state of Tennessee on the evening of January 7 on suspicion of reckless driving.

A standoff ensued, with the police using tear gas and an electric shock weapon against the man.

He still tried to escape from them, but was caught by the five law enforcement officers, who beat him mercilessly.

They are all black too.

The five officers were fired on January 20 and charged Thursday with second-degree murder.

These are very serious charges that can be punished with many years in prison.

Second-degree murder involves malice and intentional harm, but unlike first-degree murder, it is not premeditated.

The recording contains shocking footage: the young man was beaten for a long time, forced with fists, kicks and batons;

the police also hurled abuse at him.

Nichols was beaten to the ground for a long time.

"Mom! Mom! Mom!" the man yells at one point.

After the beating, Nichols complained that he could not breathe.

He died in hospital on January 10 - three days after the brutal arrest, BTA informed.

Half an hour after the tape was released, US President Joe Biden said he was outraged.

Earlier yesterday, Biden spoke with Nichols' family.

He offered his condolences to the mother and stepfather of the deceased youth and congratulated them for their courage and strength, the White House said in a statement.

Tyree Nichols' mother told CNN that when she got to the hospital, her son was already dead.

He was covered in bruises and his head was very swollen.

The situation is tense in Memphis, where there is an increased police presence.

As expected, the first demonstrations after the publication of the record have already begun.

There are protests in Memphis and the capital Washington.

More than 200 people joined a march in New York.

"There is no justice, there is no peace!" chanted the participants of the demonstration.

President Biden called for peaceful protests, a call that Nichols' family joined.
