Ukrinform writes about this with a reference to the UN.

The UN Secretary General reminded of the importance of commemorating the victims of the Holocaust, Guterres recalled that 90 years ago, the Nazis, coming to power, in a matter of months eliminated basic civil rights and paved the way to totalitarian rule: members of parliament were arrested, freedom of the press was abolished, and the first concentration camp.

"We live in a world where the economic crisis breeds discontent, populist demagogues use the crisis to win voters' votes, and misinformation, paranoid conspiracy theories, and uncontrolled hate speech thrive," Guterres noted about the current state of affairs in the world.

He added that disrespect for human rights and contempt for the rule of law, manifestations of racism and neo-Nazism, denial of the Holocaust, anti-Semitism, as well as various forms of religious fanaticism and hatred are spreading.

Guterres recalled the attacks on Orthodox Jews in Manhattan in New York, the bullying of Jewish schoolchildren in Melbourne, Australia, and the appearance of a swastika at the Holocaust memorial in Berlin.

Also, the Internet world contributes to the rapid spread of hate speech, extremist ideologies and misinformation.

Therefore, he urged all those involved to make more efforts to establish effective protective barriers.
