The provision of 18 artificial kidneys to patients in the hemodialysis services of the Héroes de Playa Girón Outpatient Specialty Center (CEA), in Cienfuegos

, is cutting-edge news in the health sector in the territory.

On September 4, 2022, the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, visited the aforementioned Center and this large hemodialysis unit, which will soon incorporate another 16 artificial kidneys, with the contribution of cooperation and local development projects.

On that occasion, the Head of State described the CEA -a health project conceived by Fidel- as the "beautiful and important institution where quality of service, professionalism, good treatment of its group towards patients and the innovative conception of a type of health service that, in my modest opinion, should be assumed in all the provinces”.

When attending the start-up of the hemodialysis unit this Thursday, the First Deputy Minister of Health, Dr. Tania Margarita Cruz Hernández, emphasized

the importance of training specialized personnel, the development of consultations for advanced renal failure, community outreach of specialists in the early diagnosis of the disease and the need to expand this network on a national scale.

The CEA hemodialysis service has six specialists, updates the organization manual and protocols, and strengthens the movement of student assistants in Nephrology, a specialty in demand around the world, particularly in Cuba.

The director of the Specialized Outpatient Center and also a specialist in Nephrology, Dr. Alieski Villavicencio Verdecia, pointed out the priority granted by the Ministry of Public Health to the patients of this unit, with free transportation of patients and companions through the Cubataxi company.

He also emphasized the quality of life provided to patients, by virtue of the improvements provided by the new conditions of the premises.
