[Reporter Luo Xinzhen/Pingtung Report] A local chicken farm in Yanpu Township, Pingtung County proactively reported the abnormal death of chickens on the farm. Completed chicken movement control, spraying and disinfection operations in the field and surrounding areas, and culled a total of 19,677 black-feathered native chickens.
According to the Department of Agriculture of Ping County Government, a wave of H5N1 bird flu cases have appeared in China since December last year. Following Yilan, Changhua, Yunlin, Chiayi, Tainan, and Kaohsiung, this time the Yanpu farm in Ping County was the first infection in the county. The Animal Defense Institute simultaneously started the monitoring and sampling work of the surrounding poultry farms within a radius of 3 kilometers to confirm the health of poultry in the surrounding farms and no virus activities, and closely monitored the development of the bird flu epidemic, and strengthened the visits to poultry farms and surrounding disinfection work. Reduce the virus activity in the environment to control the spread of the virus and the epidemic.

Li Yongwen, director of the Animal Epidemic Prevention Institute of Pingtung County, pointed out that the temperature difference between morning and evening in Pingtung County has been large recently, which may easily cause high stress on poultry and increase the risk of poultry diseases. Various access control controls, avoiding other animals entering and exiting the field, personnel, vehicles, transport vehicles and utensils entering and exiting disinfection and other biosecurity work, jointly prevent the occurrence and spread of the epidemic.
The Animal Defense Institute also appeals to poultry farmers to cooperate with animal epidemic prevention agencies in monitoring and sampling, and to independently observe the health status of poultry on the farm every day, and to be more vigilant. If there is any situation, please report to the epidemic prevention agency immediately to deal with it immediately to stop the spread of the virus.
The county government sent people to carry out the culling operation.
