Maria Branias Morera, born in the United States, became the oldest person in the world according to the Guinness Book of Records.

Maria was born on March 4, 1907 in the American city of San Francisco.

This happened less than four years after the Wright brothers made the first flight in history, and two years before construction of the Titanic began.

During the First World War, her family returned to Barcelona.

Morera's father died of tuberculosis.

For the past 22 years, Morera has been in a home for the elderly in Catalonia, Spain.

In May 2020, she fell ill with the coronavirus, but later recovered.

The woman has three children, 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Although her 116th birthday is just weeks away, Maria is still on Twitter.

Her daughter helps her communicate with thousands of subscribers.
