On January 26, Kharkiv National Guardsmen destroyed an enemy Mi-24 helicopter in the direction of Bakhmut with the help of the Igla MANPADS, and shot down the second one.

This is reported by NSU.

"On January 26, at around 10:40 a.m., the fire group of the anti-aircraft missile and artillery division detected two air targets on the southeastern outskirts of Bakhmut. The MANPADS system from the "Igla-1"

simultaneously fired 2 missile launches at Mi-24 helicopters

. As a result of the combat operation one helicopter was neutralized, the other was damaged," said the head of the air defense service of the 3rd operational brigade.

MANPADS gunner National Guardsman Anton noted that this helicopter is capable of flying at low altitudes, which in the conditions of this area allows for a covert approach to the location of Ukrainian units.

"It can maneuver, inflicting constant blows on our troops in the most important areas with the use of missile and artillery weapons. Therefore, the detection and destruction of air targets of such a plan is effective during a combined battle," the serviceman added.

According to the calculations of the General Staff, from the first day of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, February 24, 2022, to January 27, the occupying forces lost

283 helicopters in the war against Ukraine.

Let's add

that the Mi-24

is a Soviet multi-purpose attack helicopter and infantry combat support.

One of the fastest attack helicopters in the world, designed for the transfer of manpower and its fire support on the battlefield.
