Ashish Mishra was released from Kheri District Jail on Friday.

Lakhimpur Kheri:

Ashish Mishra, son of Union Minister Ajay Kumar Mishra, was released from Kheri District Jail on Friday.

He was taken out of the back door of the jail.

Confirming the release of Ashish Mishra from jail, Senior Superintendent of Kheri District Jail Vipin Kumar Mishra said, “Yes he (Ashish Mishra) has been released from this jail.

We have got the release order from the sessions court."

The Supreme Court on Wednesday granted interim bail for 8 weeks to Union Minister Ajay Kumar Mishra's son Ashish Mishra in the Lakhimpur Kheri violence case of 2021, in which eight people died.

Justice Suryakant and Justice JK Maheshwari's bench has directed that Ashish will not stay in Uttar Pradesh or Delhi during the period of this interim bail.

Significantly, on October 3, 2021, violence broke out after the death of eight people in Tikunia of Lakhimpur Kheri district.

This incident took place when the farmers were protesting against the visit of Keshav Prasad Maurya, the then Deputy Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh.

According to the Uttar Pradesh Police's FIR, an SUV ran over four farmers, in which Ashish Mishra was sitting.

Following the incident, the driver of the SUV and two BJP workers were allegedly beaten to death by angry farmers.

A journalist also died in the violence.

The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court had rejected the bail plea of Ashish Mishra on July 26 last year.

Ashish Mishra challenged the order of the High Court in the apex court.

The Supreme Court had said during the hearing on January 19 that an accused should not be kept in prison for an indefinite period, until the crime is proved.

However, the apex court had reserved its decision.
