A specialized police operation to counter conventional crime is taking place on the territory of the Shumen region.

The aim is to improve the security environment and ensure public order.

This was announced to journalists by the director of the Regional Directorate (OD) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Senior Commissioner Georgi Gendov.

As a result of the analysis, the vulnerable areas and places that will be subject to inspections have been identified.

We will also carry out additional measures and actions aimed at stopping illegal activity and identifying perpetrators of crimes.

Additionally, checkpoints have been built at various places in the district.

There will be checks on drivers for compliance with the Road Traffic Act.

According to him, six pre-trial proceedings have been initiated so far - for driving under the influence of narcotic substances, for theft of firewood, for illegal connection to the power grid and other crimes.

As a result of the increased control and the series of specialized police operations, a decrease in crime in 2022 is reported in the Shumen region compared to the previous year.

Last year, 1,796 crimes were registered, of which 1,092 were solved, or nearly 61 percent.

In 2021, the registered crimes were 110 more, and about 52 percent of them were solved.

There has been a decline in burglary and home theft, as well as theft from shops, Gendov also said.
