New Delhi:

Sukhnandan, a gardener by profession, was one of the special invitees at this year's Republic Day parade on the duty path, who were invited to watch the parade.

Several personnel and laborers involved in the construction work of the Central Vista project and maintenance work near India Gate and Duty Path were given special passes to watch the parade.

Sukhnandan said he was thrilled when the Prime Minister came close to his compound and greeted them all by shaking hands.

Sukhnandan said that I feel very fortunate to be a part of this program.

I never thought that I would be included in the special invitees.

However, when he was asked what he would have asked the Prime Minister if he had got a chance, he said that the previous contractor refused to pay my 44 days wages.

I will request the Prime Minister to help me get my wages.

The special visitors were allotted hall number 17 which was just opposite to the saluting dais where other dignitaries including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Draupadi Murmu were seated.

Sukhnandan has been working in the Horticulture Department at India Gate for the last two months.

Earlier he was working in Andhra Bhawan under a contractor. He lives with his wife and two children in a makeshift tent near India Gate.

He said that the previous contractor has refused to pay my wages for 44 days.

I have a copy of the attendance register that I worked there for 44 days.

That's why I should definitely get the earlier money.
