The US Department of Defense reported that Ukraine will receive improved M1A2 Abrams tanks, but it will not be possible to deliver them quickly.

This was announced at a briefing on Thursday, January 26, by Pentagon Deputy Press Secretary Sabrina Singh.

According to her, this modification of tanks is currently not available in American military warehouses.

"It will take months to deliver the M1A2 Abrams to Ukraine," she noted.

In addition, the spokeswoman of the Pentagon emphasized that "it will take a lot of time to train the Ukrainians", as this equipment requires special maintenance.

The M1A2 Abrams tanks are known to have a weapon control station with improved aiming optics.

In addition, this modification provides an independent thermal imager, which allows the crew commander to independently scan targets in any weather conditions.

To protect the M1A2 Abrams, special armor is provided, which contains depleted uranium.

However, the export version of the tank is not equipped with it.

It will be recalled that German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius clarified that Leopard 2 tanks will be delivered to Ukraine by the end of March.
