[Central News Agency] U.S. Representative Tiffany and 18 other members of Congress proposed a resolution urging the U.S. government to abandon the outdated and counterproductive one-China policy, formally recognize Taiwan's independent status, support Taiwan's accession to international organizations, and discuss bilateral relations between the U.S. and Taiwan. Free trade agreement negotiations begin.

Tom Tiffany shared a report from The Epoch Times on his official website today.

The report quoted Tiffany's statement as saying that it is time to change the status quo and recognize the fact that the United States has denied for decades: Taiwan is an independent country.

As a long-term and important partner of the United States, it is high time to correctly recognize Taiwan's independence from Communist China.

Taiwan, he said, was put in the same position as North Korea and other non-rule-abiding countries.

However, Taiwan has expanded its own democracy and is a truly peace-loving and freedom-loving country on earth, so it should be recognized.

In addition to Tiffany, another 18 members of Congress responded to the resolution, "more and more people in Congress understand the importance of Taiwan, and the importance of our recognition of Taiwan and the importance of trade with Taiwan."

Tiffany believes that the U.S. president should abandon the outdated one-China policy and support the objective and realistic policy of recognizing Taiwan as an independent country not under Chinese jurisdiction or belonging to Chinese territory.

Tiffany said in a statement that Taiwan is a free, democratic and independent country, a country that has never been administered by China and is not part of its territory. "Any suggestion to the contrary is just a lie."
