Norway will increase the number of instructors to train Ukrainian junior officers, medics and snipers.

This was announced by the Minister of Defense of the country, Bjorn Arild Gram.

According to him, Norway is already participating in the Interflex training program for Ukrainian fighters under the leadership of Great Britain.

In addition, the Scandinavian country provides financial support and its instructors for the EUMAM exercises - the new EU mission for the training of the Ukrainian military.

"Norway will train Ukrainian soldiers as medical specialists, junior officers and snipers. This training will quickly strengthen the capabilities of Ukrainian soldiers and increase the total number of soldiers that can be trained by Western countries," said the Norwegian Defense Minister.

Training is planned to begin in the spring, and several stages will be held throughout 2023.

The first hundred Ukrainian soldiers will arrive this spring.

They will stay in Norway for five to six weeks.

They will be replaced by new Ukrainian defenders.

"Ukraine needs more and better trained soldiers to fight the Russian occupation forces. In addition, they need to increase their competence in several professional areas. It is important that Norway contributes to the training and shares the burden with our allies," said Gram.

He assured that the Norwegian government will support Ukraine as long as necessary.

How Norway helps Ukraine

Earlier, Norwegian Defense Minister Bjorn Arild Gram said that his country is ready to hand over Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine.

At the beginning of this year, Norway delivered another 10,000 artillery shells to Ukraine.

In June 2022, it handed over 22 M109 tracked self-propelled howitzers of 155 mm caliber along with equipment, spare parts and ammunition.

In total, as of December 2022, Norway has transferred to Ukraine: 4,000 M72 anti-tank weapons, 1,500 body armor, 5,000 helmets, 15,000 field rations, 1,000 protective masks with filters, 2,000 sleeping bags, 10,000 sleeping mats and some clothing.

Norway also provided Ukraine with an air defense system.
