The agreement according to which Germany will deliver Leopard 2A4C tanks to Slovakia remains applicable, Nad told the TASR news agency today.

According to the contract, one Leopard tank was provided to Slovakia last December by the then Minister of Defense of Germany, Christine Lambrecht, and another 14 tanks will be delivered by the end of this year, BTA notes.

The delivery of these tanks is part of the so-called circular exchange system led by the German government to indirectly provide weapons to Ukraine through allies, the agency recalled.

According to this system, the German-supplied Leopard tanks replace the infantry fighting vehicles that Slovakia has already sent to Ukraine.

To provide additional assistance to Ukraine, Slovakia is ready to discuss the provision of Soviet T-72 tanks, but in return it will have to receive a suitable replacement for these combat vehicles, Nad said.

The Leopard tanks fill the place of combat vehicles that have already been sent to Ukraine, and that is why they are needed, he added.
