A Reuters journalist said he heard the whistle of a rocket flying at a low altitude, about 30 kilometers from the capital, Kyiv.

Two rockets were spotted over the territory of Mykolaiv Oblast, governor Vitaly Kim reported in Telegram.

"Rockets are flying inside Ukraine.

At least two were spotted northwest across the Mykolaiv Oblast,” Kim wrote.

An air alert was declared across Ukraine as people went to work.

In the capital, Ukrainians hid in a metro station, some sitting on blankets or on plastic chairs.

The first Russian missiles were shot down, announced the head of the presidential office Andriy Yermak.

Air alert in four regions of Ukraine

Ukraine's largest private energy producer DTEK announced that it is preemptively shutting down electricity supply in Kyiv, the surrounding region and Odesa and Dnipropetrovsk regions due to the risk of a missile attack.

During the night, the Air Defense Forces shot down all 24 drones sent by Russia, the Ukrainian army announced.

15 of the drones were shot down around Kyiv, where no damage was reported.

The capital's authorities warned citizens that there could be more rocket attacks later in the day.

The strikes came after Germany and the US announced yesterday that they would send advanced battle tanks to Ukraine, offering what one expert called an "armored strike force" to help Kyiv break the stalemate as the war is entering its 12th month, notes the Associated Press.
