Based on the observation of sea level monitoring stations, the level of the Caspian Sea has decreased by more than 2 meters in the last 15 years.

According to APA's Tehran office, this was said by the head of Iran's mapping organization, Ali Javidana.

A. Javidana said that the significant decrease of the water level of the Caspian Sea is an important issue and deserves more attention.

According to him, after reaching the highest water level in 1995, the water level of the Caspian Sea is decreasing at an uneven rate, and the largest amount of this decrease occurred between 2008 and 2015.

A. Javidana said that this event coincides with a significant decrease in the flow of important northern rivers, including the Volga River.

"Of course, in recent years, along with the effective change of river water resources, the increase in air temperature also affects the decrease of sea water."
