Heavy rains and snow in high places, which started yesterday, are causing problems with movement in places in western Greece, Greek media reports.

Many areas of the region of Western Macedonia and Epirus were covered with snow, which in some places necessitates the use of chains on cars, ANA-MPA reported.

The Greek police reported that chains are needed in the areas of Grevena and Kastoria, as well as in separate sections of the highway "Egnatia" and the roads Grevena - Trikala, Kastoria - Ioannina, etc.

The situation is more serious on the islands of Zakynthos and Kefalonia, as well as in the city of Patras, which are affected by torrential rain.

As reported by Sky TV, on Zakynthos civil protection services received 20 reports of problems and water pumping, and 12 people were moved to a safe place.

Schools on the island will remain closed today, and citizens are urged to limit their movement without an urgent need.
