[Reporter Jiang Zhixiong/Yilan Report] A gas explosion occurred in a community house on Donggang Road, Yilan City last night, causing 6 injuries and seeking medical treatment, and more than 10 households were affected. Because of the powerful gas explosion, the entire alley seemed to have been bombed , The fire department inspected the fire scene today and judged that the gas pipeline of the water heater was damaged, causing gas leakage and causing a disaster.
There was a loud bang at the time of the incident, and residents in the neighboring Zhuangwei Township felt the vibrations from their doors and windows. The fire department dispatched personnel to rescue them after receiving a report at 11:51 p.m. house.

When the firefighters arrived, the house where the gas explosion occurred was engulfed in a sea of flames, the furniture flew out, the interior decoration and furnishings were completely destroyed, the doors and windows of the neighbors were shattered, and the scene was a mess like a battlefield. The fire was controlled in minutes and extinguished at 11:20. The 95-year-old homeowner surnamed Wen and five neighbors were injured. The six injured were conscious and sent to Yangming Jiaotong University Hospital for treatment.
Neighbors described that before the gas explosion, 5 or 6 of them were making tea at home. They smelled gas, but they couldn’t find the source when they went out to check. It was so loud that it almost leaked urine, and it was so scary.
Staff from the Fire Investigation Division of the Fire Department went to the fire scene to inspect the fire and found 3 barrels of gas on the first floor of the house where the gas explosion occurred. Among them, the gas cylinder pipeline of the water heater was suspected to be leaking, which may have caused the gas explosion, but the detailed cause is yet to be further identified.
According to the investigation, the owner of the house surnamed Wen is an old man who lives alone. He suffered multiple burns and scalds all over his body. Because his family lived in a northern county, he was transferred to Taipei Veterans General Hospital for treatment. The other five injured were all lacerations and abrasions.
