Melbourne:

India has recently condemned the vandalism of three Hindu temples in Australia and writing on them glorifying anti-India terrorists.

Earlier this month, the Swaminarayan Temple in Melbourne, the historic Shri Shiv Vishnu Temple in Carrom Downs in Victoria and the ISKCON temple in Melbourne were vandalized by 'anti-social elements'.

The Indian High Commission in Canberra reacted strongly to this, saying, "This is dangerous."

Doubt expressed on Sikh for Justice

The Indian High Commission also said that these incidents were a clear attempt to sow hatred and division among the peaceful multi-faith and multi-cultural Indian-Australian community.

The High Commission highlighted that "pro-Khalistan elements are furthering their activities in Australia. Members of Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) and other terrorist organizations are actively aiding and abetting such cases."

"It is hoped that not only will the perpetrators be brought to justice, but appropriate action will also be taken to prevent further incidents," the statement said.

In addition, the commission has expressed concern about the so-called plebiscites in Melbourne and Sydney, announced by the banned organization, Sikhs for Justice, next week.

Investigating: Australian High Commissioner to India

The High Commission urged the Australian Government to ensure the safety of the Indian community and their properties in Australia and not allow the use of Australian territory for activities prejudicial to the territorial integrity, security and national interest of India.

The Australian High Commission in New Delhi has also expressed concern over the incidents and said that the matter is being investigated.

Australia's High Commissioner to India Barry O'Farrell recently tweeted, "Like India, Australia is a proud, multicultural country. We are shocked at the vandalism at two Hindu temples in Melbourne, and Australian authorities are investigating the matter." We strongly support freedom of expression, but that does not include hate speech or violence."

According to the 2011 census, approximately 295,362 people living in Australia were born in India and 390,894 were of Indian descent.
