Half of the mass attacks in the US between 2016 and 2020 were sparked by personal disputes, disputes at home or at work, Reuters reported, citing a US Secret Service report that aims to prevent violence by recognizing the warning signs.

The perpetrators were mainly men, often those who already showed symptoms of mental health problems, financial insecurity or domestic violence, and the attacks were usually carried out with firearms.

The report comes days after two mass shootings in California killed 18 people.

Authorities are determining the motives for both attacks, the work of older men.

In recent decades, mass attacks have become a regular occurrence in the US, but lawmakers remain divided on their decisions, with Democrats calling for stricter gun control and Republicans focusing on mental health and increased security.

Another shooting in Washington, three dead

The 70-page report was released today by the Secret Service's National Threat Assessment Center.

The report examines 173 incidents in which at least three people were injured.

The attacks targeted workplaces, schools, religious institutions and public transport, among other sites, killing 513 people and injuring 1,234.
