At least three people were injured, one of whom is said to be critical, in a blast in Manipur's Ukhrul town on Wednesday, a day ahead of the Republic Day celebrations.

The blast took place in the evening at Gandhi Chowk in the town.

Police said they are yet to ascertain the cause of the explosion and suspect that the explosion may have been caused by the explosion of a grenade.

A police officer said that one of the three injured, a 49-year-old woman, suffered injuries in her stomach and her condition is critical.

While the condition of the other two is being told out of danger.

All the three injured were admitted to Ukhrul District Hospital, from where the woman was referred to another hospital in Imphal.

The explosion created a small crater on the road and also caused minor damage to some vehicles parked on the side of the road.
