Former President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili, who was reported to have contracted a new type of coronavirus (COVID-19) the other day, is in a stable condition and his illness is mild.

APA's Georgia office reports that Zurab Chkheidze, the clinical director of the "Vivamedi" clinic where Saakashvili was treated, told reporters.

According to him, a PCR test was taken from Saakashvili due to high fever and joint pains, and the result of the test was positive.

Chkheidze noted that immediately after the infection was confirmed, a council consisting of doctors from various fields was called and based on the doctors' decision, Saakashvili was kept in the ward where he was being treated.

He noted that the source of the infection is being investigated.
