The other day, a scandal broke out in Ukraine regarding the procurement of products for the military.

As a result, the director of the procurement department of the Ministry of Defense Bohdan Khmelnytskyi and the deputy minister of defense Vyacheslav Shapovalov lost their positions.

Anastasia Radina, head of the anti-corruption committee of the parliament, announced this on Facebook.

"The director of the procurement department of the Ministry of Defense, Khmelnytskyi, and the relevant deputy minister, Shapovalov, have been dismissed," the deputy wrote.

Radina added that the Minister of Defense "has no legal claims against the author of the journalistic investigation."

Also, at the meeting of the parliamentary committee, the NABU representative reported that criminal proceedings were opened due to the possible abuse of official position during the conclusion of contracts from December 23, 2022.

"We propose to oblige the Ministry of Defense and other defense customers to publish in the Prozorro system information on the unit cost of goods purchased with budget funds, the cost of works or services (except for weapons and secret purchases). This will have to be done not after the victory, but 10 days after the conclusion contract. For food that the Ministry of Defense buys as a service, it will be necessary to publish the unit cost of each of the products included in the procurement catalog," Radina wrote.

The Ministry of Defense procurement scandal: what is known

Earlier, information appeared in the mass media that the Ministry of Defense allegedly significantly inflates prices when purchasing food for the military.

The Ministry of Defense immediately denied such information and declared that it was "a lie and manipulation."

The Ministry of Defense added that it would contact the SBU about the material on food procurement.

Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov provided a detailed comment on this matter.

He emphasized that journalists are allegedly manipulating information, and there was a "technical error" in the procurement data.

In addition, he noted that the information about the abuse was published on the eve of the meeting in the format of "Rammstein".

In turn, NABU reported that their detectives investigated the purchase of food products for the Armed Forces at inflated prices even before the publication of materials in the mass media.
