The fired employees were relieved of their duties by Prosecutor General Andrey Kostin "by mutual consent," his office announced.

It is clear from the office's website that the heads of the district prosecutor's offices in Zaporozhye, Kirovgrad, Poltava, Sumy and Chernihiv regions were released.

Dozens of senior Ukrainian officials, including one of the deputy prosecutors, were dismissed yesterday.

Analysts believe it is a reaction to recent scandals related to corruption and abuse of power.

Meanwhile, another senior official from the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense was dismissed because of the scandal related to the purchase of food for the military at inflated prices, DPA reported.

"The director of the food procurement department of the Ministry of Defense (Bohdan) Khmelnytsky was fired," the head of the anti-corruption commission of the Ukrainian parliament Anastasiya Radina announced on Facebook last night.

Five regional governors and four deputy ministers were fired in Ukraine

Deputy Defense Minister Vyacheslav Shapovalov has already resigned over the affair.

Over the weekend, Ukrainian media reported that the Ministry of Defense was buying food for soldiers at prices up to three times higher than retail prices.

Then Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov reported "mistakes" in some contracts, which he ordered to be reviewed.
